a pesar de todo…

We began in the Cuban countryside, where generations of families still work the land much as their grandparents and great-grandparents did. As we traveled through Hershey and into Havana, we found those same rhythms continuing.

History here is not preserved behind glass. It is lived.

About

John Mitchell

I photograph people in the places they inhabit—often as a small human presence within a larger, layered space. My work is grounded in observation: gesture, atmosphere, available light, and the fleeting order of everyday life.

I’m based in Indianapolis.
